Larger Projects
At Langley Furniture Works, we are well-versed in tackling larger, more unusual projects that require both expertise and careful planning. From structural oak trusses in living spaces and large architectural projects, to historical conservation and green oak canopies, we bring our craftsmanship and attention to detail to every project, no matter the scale.
These larger projects—such as the Ad Gefrin Distillery in Wooler, the Auckland Castle restoration and the Holy Island Canopy demand a meticulous approach throughout the whole process. We use traditional designs and techniques like triangulation and pegging, alongside modern solutions, to ensure the long-term stability and strength of the timber. Freshly felled or ‘green’ oak, can shrink considerably once placed in a heated environment, so we take great care in selecting and preparing the timber to avoid any movement once in position.
All of these projects are carefully mocked up in our workshop or under our large outdoor canopy before being dismantled and fitted on site. Most of these works are carried out in collaboration with architects and structural engineers, ensuring that every detail is addressed. While we continue to source our oak locally, we also look UK-wide for suppliers to meet the growing demand for high-quality timber, as Northumberland’s oak stock is not as plentiful as it once was.
